IBM PC DOS 1.0 uses a disk format that is long obsolete. 160K single sided, 8 sectors per track. Recovering usable images from those without a 360K drive and a controller old enough to support the format may be an interesting challenge . . . .
I've got IBM DOS 3.3 on 360K 40T DSDD disks that are probably still readable, and am not sufficiently interested in intel based archaeology to contemplate booting anything earlier. In fact if I had to use a DOS 3, I'd use Compaq Dos 3.31 which introduced FAT16B and supports drives over 32MB.
