please explain the reference to first post.
In my personal experience it is MUCH more easy to use for beginners than classic MPLAB
Your personal experience. Explain it to me
We used this PIC years ago in our student labs on PICDEM 2+ boards.
Later we replaced them with 4520 because of internal oscillator and other improvements
In the meantime we switched again and are using 45K22 and 25K22 chips on our lab boards.
Please share your experience.
So you use MPLAB-X now ?

What hardware do you have ?
MCHP demo board ?
Debugger ?

Explain Please. I am sure that you are smarter than me, but explain yourself as you try to ask question outside my fields.

MPLAB-X is in my opinion much more easy than MPLAB because I had to coach
hundreds of students when they started and there definitely have been more issues
with MPLAB than with MPLAB-X

2. I think I do my very best to share my experience

3. The more I know the easier it is for me not to suggest some useless things ;-)

4. If you describe your equipment I could send you a working project within a minute ?

Actual versions of IDE find and add the correct linker file automatically !
(I don't think it makes sense to learn how to use outdated equipment)
((( linker files may be located in bin/lkr folder of the compilers installation folder )))

My first time in C18. I have MPLAB 7.20 installed. Some ideas what I need to do to fix this failure please.

I would recommend updating to MPLAB 8.92.
It still looks much the same as MPLAB 7.20 (not like the total shift you find with MPLABX), but without those incompatibilities. Version 7.20 is ancient (i.e. about 2005 vintage).

You can download any version of MPLAB from http://www.microchip.com/pagehandler/en ... parts.html

In your opinion. Show me examples of MPLAB vs MPLAB-X. You said "definitely" ....more issues. Explain the issues your students encountered?

There's no need to be so aggressive to someone who's trying to help you.
