MPLAB X IDE v3.2 Suddenly HANGS when I do a build!!!

Postby geo » Fri Feb 26, 2016 12:11 am

I've been using MPLAB v3.2 for 2 weeks to build (small) projects for the curiosity board, all of a sudden, out of nowhere, when I do any kind of build (from the GUI), it just HANGS! I use task manager to kill it, restart, same thing! So, out of frustration, I uninstalled MPLAB (telling it not to remember anything), reinstall, same thing!
I'm using Windows 7, quad i7 with 16G RAM. I have used this machine for many years to simulate HUGE VHDL designs, so I don't think that it's the machine or OS.

I thought that I would "Play" with this PIC Curiosity board for fun, but this tool hanging is just ridiculous..
If it's something simple that, would someone please give me a heads up?

Thanks in advance,
Paul

Did you try re-installing the compiler? That's seperate to the IDE.
Latest test project, an LED matrix display made from one reel of addressable LEDs. here

I did try reinstalling the compiler, that did not help.
I then tried restoring my system from 5 days ago (when it was definitely working), no luck.
So, instead of killing it completely, I told windows to debug the problem, it returned:
"Java SE platform not responding"
Any idea what this may be?

More information:

I un-installed everything including the persistent directories, I manually wen through the registry
an removed all references to MPLAB, XC8 and Microchip.
The new install was clean, no leftover project data, I create a real simple project (toggle an LED with delay), hangs!
Same symptom, kill it with task manager, and a dialog box saying Java problem.
Not sure what to do because the Java is installed with the download and is exclusive to MPLABx 3.25.

It seems that this machine (Windows 7, Quad i-7, 16G RAM) has gotten into a state where MPLABX will never run again.
I can compile the same little program on my MacBook Pro no problem, but, I really like this machine...It should run! (was running)

If anyone has any ideas, please send them this way.
Thanks,
Paul

The same happened to me (on Windows 10, I7-6700K, 32GB) . Nothing I tried fixed it (Restarting, reinstalling MPLAB X and XC8, etc.).
Incredibly frustrating!!!

The project directory is in my Dropbox tree; when I tried running it from my MacBook, MPLAB hung there too! It's contagious.
So clearly there is something evil in the project files.

It finally went away when I turned off generation of the .lst files. I'm not positive that was the only thing I changed, since I was
by that time flailing, but that's my best guess.

However, I'm still left with weird behavior. My program compiles successfully, but the editor shows myriad errors (as red circles
in the left margin, and countless red-underlined tokens in the text.)

I wish you luck!
