Fail to connect to USB Starter Kit III on Mac OS X Yosemite

Hi, I tried to run a simple C project using the latest MPLAB X IDE and XC32 on a Mac and a USB Starter Kit III. The build was successful but when I tried to program the device I got the "failed connection" error message. This project works fine on Starter Kits I and II. The difference, as far as I can tell, is that there's no prefabricated configuration for Starter Kit's III's 470 chip, whereas there are prefab configs for the Starter Kit I and II's chips, the 360 and 795. For Kit III I tried making a new config using the config manager, but it didn't work! Any suggestions? Thanks.
